Authors: Rajayogapoopathy, Jeevatharani
Abstract: Tourism is a rapid growing phenomenon and has become one of the largest industries in the world. The
impact of tourism is extremely varied. The introduction of tourism will imply an increased stress on
resources available and the tourism industry is very resource- and land intensive. The Sri Lankan
tourism industry plays a key role in regional development. Sri Lanka is a glorious paradise in the world.
It has been popular because of its geographical location. Jaffna is one of the district of Northern
Province of Sri Lanka. Jaffna district has more tourist potentials. Tourism image in Northern Province
had changed by war during the last three decades. But the war is mostly over, and Sri Lanka is now
stable, and increasing helps a lot. So this time is better to develop the districts. Therefore I selected this
research this title. This research analyses the natural resources for regional development of tourism
industry in Jaffna district. Tourist industry develops and contributes to the regional development and
sustainable development. Information was gathered through visit to tourist areas, conducting interviews
and relevant documents. SWOT analysis and descriptive statistical analysis were used for the result.
The finding of research reveals that Jaffna district can benefit much more than present context of tourist
industry. The many potentials for tourism were identified. That can improve the regional development.
If Jaffna district has concentrate more on natural tourism, it can benefit from the tourist industry without
endangering its social, cultural and environmental values.2019-12-18T00:00:00ZImpact of social media use on academic performance among University students: special reference with South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.

the academic performance of the university students. Impact of Social Media use on Academic
Performance among University Students had been examined through online survey by using The
Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as variable to measure. Moreover, I use the group discussion,
interview, research article and internet. This study is carried out in order to highlight the potentials of
social media in the academic setting by collaborative learning and improve the students' academic
performance. The results show that positive collaborative learning, interactive with peers, interactive
with lecturers and engagement, will have an impact on the students’ academic performance.2019-12-18T00:00:00ZIdentify the economic impacts of the Wemedilla Reservoir Construction: a study based on Galewela D.S. Division

Title: Identify the economic impacts of the Wemedilla Reservoir Construction: a study based on Galewela D.S. Division
Authors: Nusrath Banu, M. M.; Mohamed Rinos, M. H.
Abstract: Reservoirs have been used for thousands of years to regulate river flows and ensure adequate supply
of water during dry periods. There will be a need for more reservoirs and dams in the future, as water
consumption rises due to population increase. However, in recent years new reservoirs have been
constructed in Sri Lanka giving both positive and negative impacts in the particular area. Wemedilla
Reservoir located in Galewela DS Division has been selected for this research in order to find out the
socio-economic and environmental impacts in the study area due to the Wemedilla Reservoir
construction. The objectives of this research are to find the economic impacts caused by Wemedilla
Reservoir and to identify the measures to mitigate the negative impacts. Primary data have been
collected within the study area through questionnaire survey, interviews and field observations.
Secondary data have been collected from the Divisional Secretariat Division of Galewela, Irrigation
Office of Dambulla and published and unpublished materials. Microsoft Excel 2013 used for the data
analysis. Further this study assesses the positive and negative impacts of Wemedilla Reservoir in the
study area. Tourism, Agricultural Activities, Livelihood Development and Regional Development are
some of the Positive Economic Impacts through the Wemedilla Reservoir in the study area. Loss of
agricultural Lands and Improper relief are other negative economic impacts caused by the Wemedilla
Reservoir. This research suggests some recommendations to mitigate the negative economic impact.2019-12-18T00:00:00ZCreative cities in Sri Lanka: understanding the cultural heritage, modernity and the sustainability of creative industries in Pilimatalawa, Molagoda and Wewaldeniya

the concept of creative cities under the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage which highlighted area

industries have directly facilitated to Socio-cultural economic infrastructure since the city had been a
Kingdom from 15th Century AD to 1815. Even after the British took hold the capital of Kandy in the
year of 1815, the traditional industries has been continued up to date. A living tradition which is based
on the industries is still demanding in the life and the culture of the Sri Lankan people. The objective
of the research is to investigate how sustainable the creative industries of brass wear of Pilimthalwa,
pottery of Molagoda and reed work of Wewaldeniya in the context of the present city development
plan. The research project started on April 2019 . This is a qualitative research approach. Research
design involves field surveys, on field observations, interviews and discussions to gather data and
information. A qualitative analysis of the data will be performed using the literature review and
theoretical models. Mapping research with documentation will carry out according to ethnographic
study methodology. This project will add value to sustainable industries of Sri Lanka. The project
outcomes will be able to meaningfully implement in several institutions of Sri Lanka as well. The
outcomes will be very much vital for the regional development/regional planning aspects of these
industries (an angle on regional economy) within local and globalizing circuits. Review the existing
development plan in relation to creative industries, Spatial distribution map of brass industries in the
area towards planning a map of actor networks will forward a set of guidelines in relation to city
planning to promote the industry in more sustainable way in the future. Categorization of the art and
craft aspects of the industry (recording of Traditional form of art) is beneficial to stakeholders of the
art and craft field (professionals/apprentices) and students to gain insight knowledge on the craft then
transfer traditional knowledge into modern perspective.2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
