Nisthar, S.; Vijayakumar, S.; Nufile, A. A. M.
This study aimed to statistically measure the potentiality of resources of Ecotourism on Gross
Domestic Product of Sri Lanka and to direct the policy makers to appropriately identify the
resources of ecotourism contributing to Gross Domestic Product of Sri Lanka. The data used
in this study were collected from Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and Annual
Report of Central Bank of Sri Lanka from the period of 1983 to 2013. The variables used in
this study were CTR, ZGR, BGR, BMICHR, WPR, ETR and RGDP. CTR, ZGR, BGR,
BMICHR, WPR, and ETR were used in this study as the independent variables. RGDP is used
as the dependent variable in this study. The quantitative methodology used in this study was
based on the econometric analysis using the Statistical Software of E-Views, Minitab and MS
Excel in collaboration with the parametric analyses. The time series econometric techniques
such as Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) for unit root test, Johnson co-integration test for the
long run relationship, Granger causality test for causal relationships between the variables and
Residual test for best regression model were used in this study. There was a positive
relationship between BGR, BMICHR, CTR, ETR and RGDP and an inverse relationship was
found between RGDP, WPR and ZGR. The value of R-squared was 0.9637 and DurbinWatson statistic was 0.6365. The residual was stationary along with all the other variables.
The Granger causality test showed the different way causal relationships between all the
variables. This study prominently suggested for the government and policy makers to keep on
focusing on the economic policies to be designed for the promotion of ecotourism industry as
one of the prospective sources for economic growth and development in Sri Lanka.

A study of climate changes in the coastal region: special reference on paddy production in Ampara district
Ashraff, S. H. A.
Agriculture is a vital sector in Sri Lanka as it plays key role in GDP, export income and total
employment. This sector contributes 7.42 percent and 15 percent to GDP and export income in
Sri lanka, respectively, and also it provides employment to about 26.1 percent of the labour force
exceeding the contribution of any other single sector (Central Bank of Sri Lanka, 2017).
Agricultural production is vulnerable to variation in climate, which affects almost all the regions
in the Universal. Using a collective cross-sectional data from major paddy producing regions in
Ampara and Sri Lanka, the responsiveness of paddy production to average temperature and
rainfall variation was analyzed. This study purposes to examine the relationship between rainfall
and paddy production. Samplings from 100 farmer’s households had been gathered by
questionnaire survey as primary data and the secondary data. Rainfall data of 135 years and 20
years / 40 seasons paddy cultivation data has been utilized to analyses the result. As the result,
the study finds that through the 3, 5 years moving average had shown high drier seasons of the
years. The paddy production was very high in Maha season but this was very low in Yala season
because of the rainfall variability. Paddy yield under various climate change scenarios. Both
average temperature and rainfall have concave, non-monotonic effects upon paddy production,
which implies that variations in growing climate are likely to have negative effects on paddy
production. It was found that modest increases in average temperature and variation in rainfall
had only a small effect of unclear sign, but increases in average temperature beyond 2.010C were
likely to have strong negative effects on paddy production. For example, 3.08oC increase in
average temperature individually or in combination with changing rainfall can lead to
approximately 32% yield drop in Sri Lanka and 26% in study areas of paddy production.

A study on perception of graduate teachers towards computer assisted instruction in Eastern province of Sri Lanka
Jazeel, A. M.
The technological advancement has offered a plethora of opportunities in educational
practices. Pedagogical delivery of lessons in most of the universities in the world has got
reshaped and absorbed Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) as means of modern learning and
teaching process. Nonetheless, most of the teachers in Sri Lanka, if not all, seem to be reluctant
to capitalize on this effective instructional strategy of computer assisted instruction instead of
the conventional method of teaching. The objectives of this study are to find out the extent of
attitude of the teachers towards computer assisted instruction (CAI) and to test whether
significant mean differences exist in sub groups based on gender, subjects studied in degree
level, locality of residence, and knowledge of computer. A self-prepared tool of attitude scale
was employed and administered among teachers. The comparisons of mean scores were made
by using “t” test. The results revealed that the extent of attitude among university teachers is
mediocre and the selected factors have differential influence in attitude towards computer
assisted instruction.
