Abstract:
Scholarly literature has recognized many factors as the success factors
of the decision making process in different contexts which could drive
the success or failure of the business entity. Individuals involve with the
decision making. Entrepreneurs have become key for the success since
accuracy and timely nature of their decision enhance the financial and
non-financial performance of the entity. Historically, businesses are
managed by resource owners due to greater hold of resources and
controlling power. Thus, most of the decision makers have become more
theoretically sound and fairly educated. Research question is whether
there is relationship between business success and the entrepreneur's
orientation towards mathematics as a subject. While attempting to the
research question exploration, it is expected to achieve the primary
objective of recognizing the relationship between successes of business
decision and entrepreneur's orientation toward mathematics and
subsequent objective of accessing the special decision related skills held
by entrepreneurs who posses orientation towards mathematics as a
subject. Population of the research is recognized as the successful
entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka. Sample is recognized as top entrepreneurs in
the country during the period of year 2009 and 2010. Data were
collected through interviews and questionnaires to guarantee
triangulation. Initial background data indicates that there is a strong
relationship between successful decision making and orientation towards
mathematics.
