Abstract:
There are three types of leadership style such as Autocratic leadership style, Laissezfaire leadership style, and Democratic leadership style. The main objective of this study
is to investigate significant relationship between democratic leadership style of
principals and performance of teachers in the schools of zonal education Batticaloa. For
this study 250 teachers were taken as a sample from 64 schools of zonal education
Batticaloa in Batticaloa district. Five point likert scale structured questionnaire was
used to collect the data from teachers. Democratic leadership style was taken as an
independent variable as a leadership style while performance of teachers was taken as
a dependent variable. The collected data was analyzed by using SPSS version 20
software and also correlation analysis and regression analysis were carried out. The
findings show that school principals’ Democratic leadership style has a significant
relationship with performance of teachers (r = 0.465, sig = 0.000). And the findings
showed that most of the principals in zonal education Batticaloa used democratic
leadership style (mean value = 4.04657).
