Abstract:
Education is a basic human right and wealth of the nation. Therefore, every country has taken many steps to
improve education including Sri Lanka. But Sri Lanka is facing many difficulties to improve educational level of
teenage students. The objective of this study is to identify the influence of family factors on teenage students in
type ii school in Kayts Educational division from Sociological point of view. Mixed method (Qualitative and
quantitative) was employed to collect the relevant data. Schools in Eight to Eleven classes were selected. Total
sample comprised 814 teenage students, 90 from six schools. Primary data were collected from different
participant using semi - structured questionnaire, case studies, key-informer interviews and observation. This
study utilized the secondary data too such as available literature reviews, statistics availed from Kayts
Educational division report and information from retrieved from the Web sites. Results indicate that family low
economic status, poor parent’s educational level, Family structure mainly Single parent Family structure, poor
school – family relationship and learning environment at home were influence an Educational involvement of
teenage students. So, Parents must give higher level of psychological and Economic support for their children
to encourage the study. Government’s assistance programmes for awareness on Education system is
important to enhance the Teenage student’s Educational involvement.
