Agriculture is the best of economic policies and is the ultimate driver of national economic growth and
poverty alleviation in many developing countries including India. Agriculture is a soul of any country
to raise its economic condition for supply of food, supply of raw materials for industries. It is the
important foundation of the country like India, where agriculture is the main occupation and therefore,
it is necessary to adopt advanced scientific method of cultivation in order to improve agriculture.
Organic farming is an alternative agricultural system, which helps to rapidly change farming practices
which provides green products to the society by reducing pollution and consuming energy, soil
nutrients and providing supply of food for increasing population. In India, only 0.03 percent of the area
is under organic farming, though there is a huge scope for bringing more land under organic farming.
Organic products are one of the important green products in India. The products which are
manufactured through green technology and cause no environmental hazards are called green products.
Promotion of green technology and green products is necessary for conservation of natural resources
and sustainable development. Organic farming is labour intensive. Thus, in India, where the population
is high, organic farming also helps in generating more employment in rural areas. Hence the paper
focused to analyze the problems and prospects of organic farmers in Tamil Nadu with special reference
to Coimbatore District. |
