Abstract:
The ancient city of Kilinochchi which is located in Northern Province is one of the Head quarter for
administrative. Whether it has multi ethnic people, there are Hindu people in majority level. The Hindu
culture is appeared by their culture, cultural values, and the institutions which is based on Hindu
culture. The Kilinochchi district has four D.S divisions here. Most number of Hindu people are living
in Karachi area. Culture is maintained that peoples of this area according to that many associations are
here from the previous to now. Which have the representatives as people that associations are
participated as the Hindu institutions in the religious and cultural activities. Generally Hindu
institutions do their functions in various ways. The registered and unregistered organizations provide
their functions and services for the people and religion with any discrimination. They give the services
to children, women, elders, orphans and disabled people. Not only that but also, their services area
improve the basic facilities do the religious function based on temples, educational services and
economic services etc. We can observe many changes in the functions of these institutions after the
war and resettlement compare with previous period. Although, the researches has done according to
the Hindu institutions and their functions. The extended researches didn’t conduct in this area. Some
of the institutions are identified in the Karachi institutions. They are Mahadeva Ashram, Correctional
Corporation, Vegetarian Association and Yogar Swamis Thiruvadi Station. According to that the
purpose of this research is identify the Hindu institutions of Karachi area, examine their functions and
reveal their services Hindu culture of this area and their features. Many qualitative research methods
that are used to reach the objective of this research. They are descriptive method, sociological and
historical research methods. Questionnaires through the field, discussion and observation data are the
primary data sources and books, magazines, essays, internet data and other documents are used for the
secondary data. Finally, this research explain the religious and social functions of the Karachi Hindu
institutions, their contemporary changes and reasons for the changes. It will be the conclusion of this research.
