Abstract:
This research goal of this survey is to examine the effect of nursing officers‟occupational stress
on their work performance in Base Hospitals located in Kalmunai Regional Director of Health
Services region.In order to achieve these objectives data were collected from 196 nursing
officers from selected four Base Hospitals by using structured questionnaire.The research
framework of study consists of 6variables of occupational stress such as demand, control,
support, relationship, role, change which were expected to influence on worker
performance.Findings revealed that there is negative connection between occupational stress and
job performance among the nursing officers. Demand, change, relationship, support and control
were the major factors for occupational stress than role. Change, support, role, control and
relationship impact more on work performance than demand. The findings will immensely
contribute to the service sector organization like hospitals to implement policies and actions over
the nursing officers to enhance their performance by means of reducing the occupational stress.
