Abstract:
Coronaviruses are a large family of enveloped viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common
cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that was discovered in 2019
and has not been previously identified in humans. The World Health Organization recently declared
COVID-19 is a global pandemic. Sri Lanka got the first confirmed case of coronavirus in January
27 2020, who was a 44-year-old Chinese woman from Hubei province in China. She had arrived as a
tourist with another group of travelers and had been screened at the Bandaranayaka International
Airport after having a high fever. On 10th March 2020 the first Sri Lankan local national tested
positive for covid-19. A 52-year-old tour guide working with a group of Italians had tested positive.
After that, the virus spread to all the districts of the country. Until now Sri Lanka is facing a
pandemic situation because of Covid 19. While these incidents were happening, the government
formed a presidential task force in relation to fighting the covid-19 virus which seek the cooperation of
all sections of the society. The objective of this research is to identify the spatial
distribution of the first, second, and third waves of coronavirus in Sri Lanka. as well as identify the
provincial distribution through GIS Technology and analyze the age distribution. The methodology
used both qualitative and quantitative methods which are obtained from secondary data sources.
Research findings discuss the spatial distribution of covid 19 disease in various aspects. Research
the conclusion says Sri Lanka was experienced several effects of coronavirus and to mitigate the
the pandemic situation that the prevention methods should implement.
