dc.description.abstract |
“The study was conducted under the theme “The Socio – Economic Impacts of Curfew Enforcement
due to Outbreak of Coronavirus : A Special study Centered on the Uruthirapuram North Grama
Niladhari Division”. The prime objective of this study was to assess the socio-economic impact of
curfew enforcement to control the outbreak of covid - 19 in the Uruthrapuram North Grama Niladhari
Division of the Kilinochchi District. Both qualitative and quantitative methods have been used to
contact this study. The stratified random sampling technic was used in selection of sampling and
occupation was considered as stratifying factor. The population of this study has been stratified
based on occupation and then 20 percent of respondents have been considered randomly from each
occupation. Actual data was Collected from Primary data sources. Questionnaire was used as a data
collection technique to collect the data. The study was designed in such a way that comparison of
respondents’ Socio-Economic Status before and after the curfew implementation. The descriptive
statistical method was used for data analysis and SPSS software was employed for the data entry and
to assess the results. The study concluded that the curfew imposed to control the spread of the
coronavirus has had a negative economic impact on income, consumption, saving, investment,
marketing and re-paying capacity of loans of the population of Uruthrapuram North. At the same
time, it has been found that socially the positive impact is high which accounted for 53 percent
compared to the negative impact which is 47 percent. The recommendations have been made that the
people should be motivated to concentrate on the habit of saving, home gardening, farming, ELearning, Traditional food intake, and hygiene to protect them themselves from the harms caused by
such un expected circumstances in the future. |
