These disasters have claimed many lives around the world. Aside from human loss, flooding
has a negative impact on a country's economic situation. Flooding is one of the most
devastating natural disasters in Sri Lanka. Floods are caused by natural factors such as heavy
rainfall, high floods, and high tides, as well as human factors such as channel blocking or
aggravation, improper land use, deforestation in headwater regions, and so on. Floods cause
loss of life and property damage. This study will look at the socio-economic and environmental
consequences of a flood disaster in Kalutara District from May to June 2021. The information
was gathered from both primary and secondary sources. Primary data was collected using
observations, interviews, focus group discussions, and participatory rural appraisal methods,
while secondary data was collected using charts, reports from the Disaster Management
Centre, figures, and Internet statistics. According to the results and Discussion section, flood
disasters caused a large number of damages and effects from May to June. Some of these
include house damage, biodiversity loss, human death, and so on. This research also included
recommendation methods and flood disaster management systems. As a result, the area can
reduce future damages. Finally, the study concluded that flooding is a major disaster in the
Kaltura district, causing extensive damage in all sectors. |
