dc.description.abstract A settlement is the abode that man has set up on earth for his own needs. As food and clothing are important in human life, so is shelter. Settlements are designed to protect animals, thieves, and enemies. The dwellings are generally classified into two types: urban dwellings and rural dwellings. In terms of rural settlements, although the land areas are greater, the settlements are smaller. But in terms of urban housing, residential areas are densely populated despite the low land area. Examples include residences in countries such as China, Germany, and France. Thus, the concentration of dwellings causes various social problems. In that sense, the concentration of settlements in the study area of Maruthamunai has increased from the earliest times to the present day. This raises a number of sociological issues. That is why the topic "The Social Impact of Density Settlements: A Sociological Study based on the Maruthamunai Area" has been selected and the problems it faces have been explored. The study objective was to identify the social problems faced by the people of Maruthamunai due to settlement density. The methods of selecting the sample units are followed as the means to achieve the objective of the study. In this way, 180 people were selected as a research sample from the total population of 17,885 found in the Maruthamunai area as a 01%. A questionnaire was also distributed to 140 people, 30 people participated in a focus group discussion (FGD) for fun, and 10 key informant data sets for the study were collected. In this study, both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods were used. Secondary data sources included books, research articles, and website data. Furthermore, the research analysis for this study was conducted through Excell software. Thus, the following factors were identified among the social factors in the settlement density analysis of the study: They are the settlement related problems; environmental problems; sanitation-related problems; transportation problems; and social conflict. en_US
