Abstract:
Quoting and Guiding, as a theme, is considered as one of literary criticism topics that lacked
adequate studies from Arabs and non-native speakers of Arabic, as they did on emotion, imagination
and style. Indeed, the said theme needs adequate studies for acquiring more aesthetics required in the
literary field. This paper aimed at documenting facts about quoting and guiding, with the case study
of Imam Ibn Salam Al-Jumahi’s Tabaqat Fuhul Shu’ara and identification of the likes and
discrepancies between the terms. The descriptive method was adopted in the analysis and evaluation
of the thoughts in the book, after documenting the biography of the author. It is therefore
recommended that thorough review should be done on available poetry therein, but in line with the
modern criticism tenet that will suit the tastes of the modern critics.
