Abstract:
The English language is given more importance in the development of
the Nation, and in particular Sri Lanka. But there is a negative relationship between the
need of the Language and the supply. Because the education sectors, especially die
school education does not have adequate number of staff to teach die language. Also it
is visible that the teachers who are supposed to teach the Language do not have
adequate exposure to the language and they are not given proper training prior to the
entrance to the schools that they have been allocated. "The twenty year ethnic war is
the reason for this particular problem," most of the responsible officials said. But how
about the situation pertaining to this problem in the post-war situation?
English is a foreign language and is taught as second language in Sri Lanka at
all levels from primary to the tertury . This present study engages itself to check the
situation pertaining to the English Language teaching in the post-war situation remains
the same as that of the pre-war situation. Also this research encompasses how this
English language teaching affects the economic development of the selected place and
the Nation on the whole.
