Abstract:
Secondary education is one of the most important aspects in the world. In this
regard, the main objective of this research is to find out the factors that
determine the expenditure of the household on secondary education by
focusing on the students of the G.C.E. Advanced Level Science stream in the
Muthur Division. In order to achieve this objective, the assistance and
problems were faced by the public and private sectors in the field of household
were identified, and providing suggestions and solutions are the sub-objectives
of this research paper. For this study, 220 people were sampled via a simple
random sampling technique, and the data was collected through a structured
questionnaire. The data was analyzed using descriptive and multiple
regression analysis via SPSS and MS Excel software. The results of this study
have been found that influencing factors of household were determined such
as income for the household, cost of education for other children, cost of
transport, cost of food and religion have significant influence on expenditure
of the households on secondary education. Therefore, this study suggests
that the government and the private sector should adopt the best policy to
promote the growth of the secondary education system and provide
opportunities and facilities for the students from the study area to pursue
education in their home towns without seeking education outside.
