The Information Technology advancement in the West and rest of the
World brought about change and development in all spheres of life of human
population. Spatial Mobility of people are seldom not a constraint for development
since the flow of communication and the internet connectivity though computers at
homes and office and mobile phones at hands made life easier for the people living in
far off places. Globalization brought out economic development and administrative and
organization change in India.
Knowledge and innovation play an increasing role in meeting development and
achieving economic growth and competitiveness in a globalized world. There is also
recognition that innovation offers solutions to key public policy changes in delivery of
municipal services. So the innovation is high on the agenda of several international
process and deliberations and also for the urban local governments in India. A growing
number of urban agencies are moving towards adopting new technology and consider in
administrative and organizational change.
UN Habitat acknowledges that there is still lack of adequate access to training
and in interaction between urban local government agencies in India; A knowledge
network among the urban local government agencies are essential for the better delivery
of services and bring in the social and economic development of urban areas. The world
Bank collaborates with the International Finance Corporation on an initiative to promote
access to ICTs towards successful returns and development impact It is the result that
every state in India establish Urban Infrastructure Investment Development Agencies
look forward to improve the municipal infrastructure improvement and organizational
development. These in turn facilitates the local government to initiate planned
development with the municipal area with the stack holder involvement This paper
attempted to investigate the role of 1CT in the sustainable urban social and economic
development of some selected municipalities in Tamil Nadu. Especially the paper will
focus on the extent of application of ICT and the organizational change. Within the
context of urban municipal government in Tamil Nadu. India. |
