The Arabic language reflects its characteristics that distinguish it from other languages, which it acquired from the Holy Qur'an. Synonymy is one of these characteristics. Synonym means words that are united in meaning, and interchangeable with each other in any context. It is one of the indispensables foundations for all linguistics studies. There is a strong connection between synonymy and meaning. The Qur'anic words were clear and appropriate for each place of the word which it was mentioned, including using synonyms in their appropriate positions according to the meanings contained in each of them. Unfortunately, some scholars did not pay proper attention to the original meaning of the word when translating words into other languages because they considered it to be synonyms. Therefore, this research focuses on synonym and its role in translating the meaning of selected words from the Holy Qur'an into Tamil language. It aims to differentiate between the word "الخوف" and its synonyms in the Holy Qur'an, and compare it through the translation of Sheikh Abdul-Hamid al-Baqawi and the translation of P.Zainul Abdeen in Tamil language. This research is based on descriptive analytical method. The secondary data was collected from translations and Interpretations of the Holy Qur'an, dictionaries, books, related research papers, and research articles. The results of this research are mentioned at the end of the research, from that: It clearly proved by the careful consideration of the analysis at the meanings of synonyms from dictionaries and interpretations. The translators had used synonyms of the word الخوف" without differentiate between them and used the same term in all places. Therefore, the delusional synonyms must be scrutinized while translating the meanings of the Holy Qur'an into other languages. The different between delusional terms of synonymy helps to validate the translated texts. And the word "الخوف and its delusional words are not synonymous in reality. They are different in meaning; so, they could be said "words converging in meaning." Also, this research will help non-Arabic speakers to properly understand the meanings of the words in the Holy Qur'an.en_US
