Abstract: In recent years, numbers of biometric technologies are used for various fields, especially for authentication purposes. But still we use manual attendance management in university system as a traditional way. The traditional system suffers from many drawbacks in past years. The academics and administration face several complex situations with lecture, examination management and scholarship due to the fraudulent activities of the student during their undergraduate period. This leads the system with many difficulties when managing the students’ attendance. This paper presents a review on the currently existing biometric based authentication techniques with the aim of finding a better, simple and suitable approach with highest performance for student attendance management in university system. From the overall analysis, patterns from the fingerprints are selected as suitable and minutia based finger print matching technique is used for the proposed verification system, in which the unique features called minutiae point have been extracted using the crossing number (CN) method. The system has implemented using MATLAB environment.
