dc.description.abstractIt is identified that midwives in Jaffna teaching hospital have occupational stress. Thus, the title of this study is “Occupational stress of midwives in teaching hospital”. Midwives are the persons who work at the delivery ward in Jaffna teaching hospital. A medical institution established by the government. Workloads have given to midwives and rules and regulations of hospital work beyond their ability and ethics of the institution causes occupational stress to the midwives. Thus, the occupational stress is defined as “the stress occurs in labourers when the expected output in works is very challenging. To their ability and incompatible to their knowledge and ability”. In that manner, the research was conducted in midwives in Jaffna teaching hospital. The main objective of this study is to find out whether the midwives in Jaffna’s teaching hospital have occupational stress or not? Workplace stress survey of the American Institute of Stress has been used as the first standard data questionnaire. Data are collected from secondary data such as magazine, newspapers, books, and social medias and analysed through descriptive analysis method. Conclusion of this study is the midwives in Jaffna teaching hospital have occupational stress. Midwives who have lower experience have more occupational stress than those who have more experience. In that manner, occupational stress differs based on experience. Married persons have more occupational stress than unmarried persons. There are many useful techniques low the midwives to get rid of occupational stress. Through this study, it is suggested that future researchers can study the occupational stress of midwives in Jaffna teaching hospital and house visiting midwives.en_US
