Abstract: This article examines Sri Lanka's environmental concerns from a political perspective. The environmental crisis is a prominent topic in contemporary political discourse, as a healthy environment is essential to the existence of human beings worldwide. Sri Lanka, a tropical island in South Asia known for its ecological features, has not emphasised environmental aspects sufficiently in its post-independence political framework. Successive governments have focused mainly on political and economic issues, neglecting the environment. Moreover, informal social forces have also paid little attention to the environment. Thus, this study argues that environmental concerns in Sri Lanka do not receive adequate political attention.
