Abstract:
Organizational Commitment is an important element in an organization. Committedemployees are willing to sacrifice for the sake of the organization’s goal with a strongdesire to stay. In addition, motivated employees will provide a high commitmenttowards them, feel less pressure thus love their work. Unmotivated employees willcontribute to absenteeism, perform poorly at work and other negative factors that maycontribute to organization. Therefore the aim of the study is to examine the Impact ofWork Motivation on Organizational Commitment. For this study I selected Small andMedium Sized Organization in Muruthalawa region.The sample size of the study is 87 from four SMEs in Muruthalawa region and thesimple random sampling was used to select the sample. The primary data was used forthis study and self- administrated questionnaire were distributed among employees whoare working in those four SMEs. The data was analyzed using the IBM statisticalprogram for social science (SPSS) version 20. Hypothesis of the study are, there is apositive relationship between Motivation, its dimension (intrinsic, extrinsic) andOrganizational Commitment, its dimension (affective, continuance and normative).Therefore 9 hypothesis were developed and all null hypothesis were rejected andalternative hypothesis were accepted based on correlation and regression results.The finding of the research is there is positive relationship between all dimension ofmotivation and the dimension of organizational commitment. And the extrinsicmotivation has more impact on affective and normative commitment. By studyingconclusion and recommendations the management can realize the current state ofemployee’s commitment and can create strategies to improve employee commitment.Furthermore, the researcher has shown that the area can be used for the futureresearches.
