Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to identify the influence of private tuition classes on students’ academic performance and the other factors that influence student academic achievement among ordinary level students in the Sammanthurai zone. The sample of the study was enrolled 100 respondents by random sampling technique and questionnaire survey used to collect data from participants. A quantitative research method deals with quantifying and analyzing variables in order to get results. The data collected was analyzed using regression and Chi-square test via SPSS 21. This study reveals that the number of students takes up private tuition classes for English subjects is increasing. The number of students among the students engaging in English private tuition classes, which were failed in the ordinary level final examination, is very less. So, it stated that there is a significant role for private tuition classes in students’ academic performances. From the questionnaire responses, the researcher was able to found out the other relative factors which support the students in their academic activities. They are environment, social skills, and parents’ education level as well. Even though, English is in the second language level for every Tamil-speaking individual. As a reason, the students living in the Sammanthurai zone and especially Tamil medium students are facing many untold hardships and problems in capturing the English language.
