Abstract: | Waqf is a form of permanent charity in the economy of an individual and it has been utilized for the betterment of needy people in a society. Moreover, it has played a significant role in economic development throughout Islamic history. Nowadays, joint waqf is becoming a popular contemporary waqf practice in Muslim majority countries in the world. It is seen as an important element that plays a huge role in the progress of Muslim society. The benefits of joint-waqf are distributed among the family or individuals or the public. It promotes maintaining family financial security and contributes to fulfilling the general needs of society. In this background, it is important to understand how joint-waqf worked with the compliance of Islamic Law. The aim of this paper was to examine the shari’ah view on the practice of Joint-Waqf in the contemporary world. This working paper adopted the interpretive qualitative analysis using past literature and analysed it from an Islamic perspective. According to the finding of the study that joint waqf is widely practised in Muslim-majority countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Morocco, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. also there are separate legal provisions in this regard. This study is important because it considers the concept of Islam related to Waqf and discusses the practical forms of joint Waqf and its operation. |
